Villarreal eyeing a move for Barcelona goalkeeper

The goalkeeper situation at Barcelona is a bit complicated at the moment. Marc-Andre ter Stegen is currently out injured and is set to miss at least the first three games of the season. In theory Neto, who has been the back-up the last few seasons, would be looked at to take over. However, the Brazilian let it be known he wanted to leave in search of more minutes.

Barcelona know the keeper is keen on moving on to get more playing time

According to Mundo Deportivo, he could soon be getting his wish as fellow LaLiga side Villarreal are reportedly interested in the keeper. The Yellow Submarine want to reinforce their goalie situation and believe Neto would be a good fit.

He would likely be the starter because if he is signed, it opens the door for an exit for their starter, Sergio Asenjo.

The Catalans are not entirely convinced that a concrete interest from Villarreal exist but the interest does appear to be real.

Whether an offer is made by Villarreal and Barcelona are satisfied by it remains to be seen. Moving Neto would ease the wages somewhat and bring in a decent fee. Though the final decision may be left to manager Ronald Koeman.

If Neto does leave, that means that Iñaki Peña becomes the starter and would play the first three games of the season. Koeman may not want to give such responsibility to the 22-year-old.

What happens with Neto will also go a long way to resolving Peña’s own future. As mentioned, if Neto leaves then he is the starter. Should Neto stay, Peña would go out on loan.

Neto had been linked with a move to the Premier League but with interest from England cooling, it now appears his future may see him staying in Spain.

Barcelona has been unable to make any type of progress with a contract renewal for midfielder Ilaix Moriba. Their latest round of talks only served to confirm how far apart the parties are in terms of figures.

To make matters worse, the Catalans now believe one of the reasons for the lack of progress is due to the interest of a Premier League side.

Miralem Pjanic is another one of those players whom Barcelona are desperately trying to sell, as they have no use for him, and he will just be adding more figures to their wage list. The transfer of Pjanic was quite strange in the first place, as they let one of their younger players, Arthur Melo leave, and now the deal has come around to bite them. The Bosnian midfielder was hardly used by Ronald Koeman, and the player is not really useful for the Catalans. Thus, they are trying to sell him this season, and the player also desires to go back to his former club.

Barcelona are having a tough time selling the player, as not many clubs are interested in the player. A few Premier League clubs such as Everton and Arsenal had shown interest in the player, however, nothing ever materialized out of it. The closest deal they had so far was the link with AC Milan, who were looking for a backup central defensive midfielder; however, Pjanic wants first-team game time, and Milan might not be the club for him then. Nothing has progressed from either side since then.
Miralem Pjanic wants to leave Barcelona for Juventus

Pjanic’s first choice, however, is a return to his former club, Juventus. According to former Barcelona director, Ariedo Braida, the 31-year-old is dying to return back to Juve in order to get some game time. The Turin side adores the player, and would be happy to have him back however, their main concern as of now is Sassuolo Calcio’s Manuel Locatelli. The Old Lady is trying hard to secure the Italian star, and Pjanic is a secondary investment as of now. This is not good for the player however, he is not losing hope, and according to Braida, he is only thinking of a return back to the Bianconeri.

As the Catalans are actively trying to sell him, they will probably accept any bids that come in for him, and he may not get to go to the club he desires. Then he will have to decide on whether he wants to stay on at Barcelona, and sit on the bench or play regularly for another club. As it stands, the latter is likely to happen, and Pjanic won’t be a Barca player from next season onwards.
